courtyard hideaway at the Posada Luna Del Sur, Tulum
Posada Luna Del Sur, Tulum
In the Top Ten "Best Hidden Gems" in the Caribbean and Mexico
The Posada Luna Del Sol in Tulum pueblo is a bona fide find. Winner of two 2009 Traveler's Choice awards and voted one of the top 10 "hidden gems in the Caribbean and Mexico," this boutique hotel has guests raving.
Just minutes from the ruins and the beach, the Posada Luna del Sur offers a quiet oasis in the middle of the busy Riviera Maya. Catering to an adult crowd (no children under 16), owners Jack and Janet exceptional hospitality and outstanding service.
The rooms are spotlessly clean, and include decorated cozy sitting areas, refrigerator, air conditioning, ceiling fans, coffeemaker, purified water. Cable TV, high speed Wi-Fi and safe deposit boxes are also available. There is an enchanting interior courtyard with coconut palms and bougainvillea.
The only downside is the hotel's location: no one goes to the Tulum area to see the town itself (Tulum Pueblo), which the Lonely Planet Guide describes as looking something like a truck stop. But rates for beachside hotels can run three to five times higher, and anyway, you lose the cache of being in the know about one of the area's hidden gems.
