Mayan World Tour - 2010

Proposed Itinerary

In November 2010, we will personally lead the first Mayan World Tour, a first-class expedition of the cultural and natural wonders of the Mexico's Yucatan peninsula...especially designed for adult travelers.

Here is our proposed itinerary. This plan is subject to change, but it is based on our own experience which tells us that a 10 day trip (with a possible 4 day extension) is a perfect amount of time for an introduction to this fascinating part of the world.

Day One & Two

For the sake of convenience, our tour begins in Cancun. Our first night will be spent not on the mainland, however, but on beautiful Isla Mujeres, a short ferry ride from Cancun's glitzy zona hotelera.

Isla Mujeres is home to an ancient island culture, whose ruins still remain. It is also the site of Hernan Cortez's first landing in Mesoamerica, an event which was to alter the history of the entire region of North, Central and South America.

Isla's incomparable beaches, quiet town center and charming hotels and restaurants make it a perfect place to unwind on your arrival.

We will also take this opportunity to provide you with an educational overview of the days ahead, which will include an lecture by a recognized Mayanist.

Day Three & Four

On Day Three, we leave Isla Mujeres behind and head inland to the UNESCO world heritage site of Chichen Itza. This is one of the Yucatan great Mayan sites, the greatest of all Post Classic sites in the northern peninsula.

The first day of our visit will include, however, a specially guided tour conducted by our resident Mayanist. This will be something you won't want to miss.

We will leave Chichen Itza on the afternoon of our second day at the site, but before departure you will have time to do a little exploring on your own. As we will be staying at Hacienda Chichen, a charming boutique hotel, practically on the grounds of the site itself, it will easy for you to come and go as you please.
