Yucatan Hotels: Something for Everyone and a Whole Lot More

Mexico's Yucatan hotels-from Cancun to Campeche, from Merida to Chetumal-offer travelers an truly amazing array of options. Indeed, when it comes to choosing world-class hotel accommodations, there are few places anywhere that rival Mexico's Yucatan peninsula.

The choices are endless: not only in the number of hotels to choose from, but in the varietes that are avaliable: everything from the vast modern resort complexes in Cancun's Zone Hotelera to colonial posadas and eco-resorts.

All Inclusive Packages

In addition to the variety in the types of accomodations, there's also the option of choosing an all-inclusive package. This may not be the best option for the seasoned Yucatan traveler who wants a good deal of flexibility, but for those of us who have ever wanted a quick getaway to the beach, what could be bettter.

It's important to know what you doing, however, in choosing an all-inclusive package. There are places that look good on the Internet, but don't measure up in the real world. To check out our list of tips to keep in mind, click here.

A Few Personal Favorites

Our particular favorites tend to be the smaller boutique hotels which typically are found in colonial surroundings, beautifully designed and laid out, and usually featuring exquisite restaurants.

Another intriguing option, further off the beaten track and often close to the more remote archeological sites or national parks, are the eco-hotels. These establishments pride themselves on their small "carbon footprint." Some are even off the grid entirely, powering their small operations with solar collectors, and limited the use of both water and electricity.

But lest you think that this mean sacrificing comfort and charm, many of these hotels are delightful featuring rooms with giant beds hung romantically with swathes of mosquito netting, cooled by ocean breezes and open to the night air. If you are traveling into the interior, an eco-resort will take you back to another era.
