Welcome to this year's Mexican Recipe Competition.

For years we and a select group of friends have followed with gusto the latest trends in Mexican cuisine. Beginning years ago with the Old El Paso Taco kit, we soon learned that this cuisine was FUN!

We've come a long way. Now many years and pounds later, we are ready to enter the ring! We have challenged each other to come up with the absolute best Mexican regional recipes we can find. And now we are running this little contest to see how we stack up.

We invite you to submit your favorite recipe and will award a $50 prize to a single winner in each of the four following categories:

• Appetizers
• Soups
• Main Courses, and
• Desserts

Our distinguished panel of judges (Alma and me and that gang of friends we can't ever seem to chase out of the kitchen) will choose from the recipes you submit. Then we will meticulously recreate your dish in our state-of-the-art test kitchens. ;)

Here's a tip: We are not interested in (North) Americanized recipes, except to the extent that in some cases, authentic ingredients must be replaced by locally available alternatives. And recipes from the Yucatan will have a slight edge, but it's not decisive.

The winners will have their recipes permanently displayed on a special "Winner's Circle" page on our website along with their pictures, links to their homepages or blogs and whatever short bios they would like to include.
